We are saddened to report the passing of a friend and former towpilot Scotty Veal killed yesterday Friday afternoon in a midair collision in Alaska.
We recieved this note from Scott's father last night.

"To Our freinds and Family
I got the toughest call so far confirming Scott was killed today at 4:00pm in a midair collison in Nightmute Alaska. I don't have any details other than his Cessna 208 Caravan collided with a 207 and his plane went straight in. Scott loved to fly and he has been living his and my dream of flying in the Alaska bush the last few years. I had talked with him just yesterday about what he wanted to fly next. He was making plans to come down next month with the kids and help get his sister ready to solo the Piper Cub he had soloed in. He was a tough nut to raise sometimes but he was my flying buddy and I will miss not getting to fly summers in Alaska together like we had planned. He knew Jesus as his savior and I know we will get to hang out together again.
Please pass this out to those who would knew Scotty. "

Our hearts go out to Scotts family.

That is sad news. Scott was excited about flying in Alaska, the "real pilots" place to fly. I remember when he towed me through a particular bad patch of rotor and he radioed back to me "YE, you still there". This last year has taken a pretty big toll on the pilot community.

This continues to be a hard season for us aviators.
Bless them all. This kind of news is always hard to receive.

This was horrible news, and especially hard to see young children lose a father. Scotty clearly loved flying, you could just tell he just thought, ate and slept flying. Condolences to Scott's family.

Sad news about Scotty - he was a lover of aviation. From his father's note, it sounds like he came from a family with a passion for flying. As a tow pilot at WSC, he towed many of us on memorable flights. He was a tow pilot at one of our Montague National and Regional contests.

The avation world has lost a passionate aviator, and he will be missed at many levels.

Condolences to Scotty's family and loved ones.

An article in the paper described the pilot of the 207 as his girlfriend, and stated that they were in radio communication at the time of the accident.
