Thought it best to start a NEW thread, as the old one says the Egg is at ASI. Hey guys, the Title is how the posts are listed and found.

Posted on the Region_11 Yahoo groups.
I flew today from Williams to Lassen and more, and landed in airsailing to capture the egg. Currently enjoying their annual banquet and great hospitality.
Will try to fly back tomorrow.

I checked on Ramy's SPOT today.
The 120 NM distance from ASI to WSC was flown by Ramy today - so he made it back to Williams today with the Egg.

Way to go Ramy! Congratulations.

Hopefully the Egg will stay here over the Wintertime.

Based on various things I am suspecting that Ramy took a tow about half the distance from ASI to WSC - but I might well be wrong. He is darn good.

Ground speed on the first 60 NM was over 60 kts, and a bit slower on the glide from Downeville area to WSC.
There was a fcst for T strorms today, so I looked at the BLIP
Not totally favorable. There were Cu fcst on the BLIP, but none too high.

I posted the following in the other thread:

I made it back, but not in a soaring flight. While it looked decent to the SE from Airsailing today (but with relatively low bases) it was either overcast, blue or OD to the west, and bases over the crest were only 11K, just as the NAM predicted, so I figured it was not possible to make it all the way to Williams in a soaring flight. It looked bad towards Truckee as well and it looks like no much flying went there at well. As such, I took a 55 miles tow to 12,000 feet and released a little west of the crest NW of Sierra Butte, 80 miles from Williams. From there it was a completely dead glide all the way to Williams, over an hour with not a single climb until landing. With a slight tail wind at the beggining of the glide I achieved 50:1 glide for the first 2/3 until I started flying faster and playing around, arriving at Williams with couple of thousand feet. Since it was not a soaring flight I can't justify for myself to post it to OLC and claim any points...
Special thanks to Lee Elding, who really took care of me while at Airsailing, provided me with a trailer to spend the night and a tow back towards Williams. And thanks for the Airsailing crowd for their hospitality. The Banquet was fun and the food was delicious.
Now I need to plan the next egg attack from Byron or Hollister before Lee captures it from Williams again :-)

The flight from Williams to Airsailing took me first to 25 miles west of Yolla, getting as high as 16,000 feet west of Yolla, then from Yolla across the valley to 20 miles or so NW of Lassen where I started climbing again, but had to struggle for a while getting as low as 2500 feet AGL before connecting with the better lift. From there went to Lassen, Lake Almanor, Susanville and Near Ravendale before heading to Airsailing.
Total distance 585KM. Highest altitude over the sierra was the same as over the Mendocinos: 16K!

Ramy's comments provide more info about Lee's involvement ( AKA Blackhawk, and AKA 3).
I believe Lee does an excellent job of promoting the Egg and is really into the spirit of the Trophy.
The previous stories and videos that Lee has promoted are also positive.

Ramy's comments repeated here for emphasis...

Ramy, how about a one-time special rule, good for the next month, so I can get the Egg to Byron, and out of the reach of Air Sailing.
If I fly from Williams to Byron, turn overhead and then fly back to Williams, I would like to award the Egg to Byron.
Do you think that would be approved as a legitimate capture for Byron, on your behalf.
I'd like to reciprocate for your kind gesture in bringing the egg back to Williams.
We could try to get a popular approval by the rest of those interested in the Egg.
Of course I'd have to do the flight, so it is probably just wishful thinking.

I think Peter is trying to get back to me for showing up at Williams on my only flight there this year and snapping the egg ;-)
I honestly did not plan to capture the egg (I was planning to try it from Byron or Hollister) and already had final glide to Williams but with the radio invitations from Airsailing, and remembering Peter's comments recently that it is to much hassle to get the egg from Airsailing vs Truckee due to the need to spend the night, I figured I might as well take this rare opportunity. BTW, the weather was no surprise to me or Kempton. The NAM clearly predicted these conditions 3 days in advance. Don't know what the RASP said, I am a true NAM believer. Perhaps next time you can modify race tasks to enable capturing the egg...

As for capturing it for Byron, no worry. There are pilots at Byron and Hollister which will take the first opportunity to capture the egg. It is relatively easy task on a good post frontal day which we can have during the Fall, and I try to encourage new XC pilots to give it a shot. This is of course a different situation than what we had recently when it required crossing the valley and the Sierra.
However you are welcome of course to capture the egg for Byron, but you will need to land at Byron first. Since you fly a motorglider, this should be easy...

Fantastic flight, Ramy - very inspiring!

I'm not so sure about Peter's idea of converting the egg to a "release" trophy - I suspect the Air Sailing folks could really turn the tables on us for that! (i.e. taking the egg to Jean!)

Lots of fun :)

Lots of fun :)Sorry Jim, I have no idea what you are talking about in the above.
The Egg is a capture trophy.
And I agree - it is generating lots of fun.

Sorry - I had misconstrued your earlier post and thought you were just delivering the egg. Now I understand that you had proposed to turn and fly back!
