    Acrofest #3 April 21-22, 2012

What should a pilot do when one wing and the nose lift suddenly and then drop to one side in a rotating motion followed sharply by a straight down rotating dive? Acrofest has now been moved to April 21 and 22. Guy and I have not checked with others to see if this conflicts with other activities, but it is the next weekend, following the vsa contest. We are also aware that it is xc season and there may be conflicting interests and time issues....so for the most part we will do the main flying on Sunday. We will fly the FOX mostly or perhaps totally on Sunday, and we request that sometime in March or early April, pilots who want to fly the FOX during the acrofest, put their names on the schedule for that day. We will cover unusual attitudes, maneuvers, routines, inverted recoveries and so on...whatever the pilot would like to do during the flight. Overflow or interest in flying in the ASK21 will be handled on Saturday, as will the presentation and dinner. Again we need to know what the pilots want. If there are competing events let us know...we are trying to get something framed up...so maybe this will work....thanks....MAL

    Mallory,

Jerry Annoni here. Put me on the list. Sudden upset attitudes is what I would like.

Malllory/Guy - So, it seems from your post above that pilots should contact WSC directly to have their name put on the schedule for the Fox (and the ASK21?) ... Or, is this posting enough?

    Thanks - Marianne

Marianne, for now this posting puts you on the priority list (first signed up gets to choose the time slots on Sunday), but we have not set up the exact shedule or slots with Noelle. And we are pending while we see if there is some unforeseen dilemns regarding the dates. Once that is completed, I will ask you (and Jerry) and whoever has signed up via this thread to choose a slot, in order received. Thanks..MAL

Not sure I'm reading this correctly. Is the wing that is lifting also the one that drops? I think p-factor can do that. I was in a situation like this once while practicing stalls and recovered with a more-or-less standard spin recovery (neutral aileron, opposite rudder and up elevator). On the other hand, a sudden increase in AOA suggests an accelerated stall...

Thanks for sharing thoughts on this Jim, it is what we will hopefully do more of in the acrofest...including putting ourselves in similar but varying situations and seeing what needs to be done to correct the problem.....

Jerry and Marainne....I just finished talking with Noelle, who as always, is there to help and be kind....looks like we are scheduled for sure to do the Acro on the 21st and 22nd. And if you both would call her, you get first choice of the time slots that you want to fly. Thank you for supporting the event, and to everyone else who will join in the future....I believe you will really enjoy flying in the FOX....it is an amazing plane...MAL

    Guy here.
Mallory and I are planning on a totally custom experience. You choose whether to fly with me or Mallory. We are prepared to help you with any unusual attitudes or aerobatic figures you would like to experience. We do have some limitations. Rolling turns are not available for demonstration. Tail slides are off the menu at this time. We expect that most requests will be for stalls, spins, and recovery from inverted attitudes. Mallory and I are happy to do slow rolls, aileron rolls, snap rolls, loops, 1/2 cubans, reverse 1/2 cubans, humpty bumps, wingovers, stall turns, split S, and emmelmans untill the sun sets. The FOX is a crazy capable unlimited acro aircraft that will make mature men and women giggle like teenagers. There are very few of these aircraft available in the world and the opportunity to experience flying one of these machines is worth the price of admission.

We anticipate having aerobatic discussions and videos on Saturday evening with pizza or mexican food in the clubhouse. The details are yet to be worked out and depend on how many people want to participate.

Guy and I would like to dedicate this acrofest to our dear friend Nirakar. Nirakar was a gentle and kind person. He was a passionate pilot. He loved acro. When i would call him and ask if he wanted to meet at Williams and do some aerobatics, he was as joyous to talk to as an excited child....pure in heart and sincerity of the moment...."I will be there at 9:30" he would usually say, "I can't wait". We had each other's back, literally, and in friendship.....we trusted each other.....we were to each other both students and mentors....we loved learning and flying together....such a person, such kindness of heart is a gift, it is not the norm.....we miss him...."this one's for you acro buddy".
