I like the idea PK proposes - lots of soaring interaction on the ground if there is not a possibliity of soaring in the air currents. I will be there. We are having a pinata for Wes's birthday, and my brother Rob, visiting from Florida, will be chief chef at the BBQ grill for either lunch or dinner, as the day dictates.

Should be a fun day, and Murphy's law says if we make plans to enjoy a day on the ground, it will be soarable! Hope to see some fellow pilots, and thanks PK and Kempton, for your analysis of the conditions, both weather conditions and social conditions!

Always good to have more than one brain on the situation. Prof. Kelly is indeed correct, I mistakenly called it a cutoff low because it LOOKED like a cutoff low, when in fact there is more to it than that. Those dang appearances, misleading me again!

Technicals aside, again as Peter said, we all agree it could easily go good or wet!

As of this evenings GFS update, it's looking like 90% humidity on Saturday, but Sunday looks more soarable. Keep watching the forecasts up to the last minute....

    Update at 9 AM Friday

Looks more and more like tomorrow will be a non-fly day - sorry to say.

I will look at it again tomorrow morning (Saturday, 3/24) and will call a meeting here on the Forum.
The meeting will begin at 08:30 and it will be on this thread.

Everyone interested in participating in this first race series event should be on line, or be here via proxy ( telephone someone you know, that might be able to represent you at this online meeting here on the Forum.) Tell that person your intentions or your opinion.
Phone me or WSC if you can't be on line, but intend to show up.
The meeting starts at 8:30 AM

My inclination at this point is to cancel the Race Day due to weather.

BUT I WON'T KNOW IF IT SHOULD BE CANCELLED, DUE TO WEATHER, UNTIL TOMORROW MORNING, AT THE 8:30 MEETING, HERE ON THE FORUM.

I'm waiting until 9:45 tonight to make a committment about what time I'm coming up tomorrow. I may come up and socialize tomorrow if any one is there, fly on Sunday if it rains on Saturday.

I'll be on the forum at 08:30 tomorrow AM.

One thing Id like to do is look at the flights that are on OLC the day the Berryessa ridge was working so well. Sergio said he looked at his and Luke's flights played together. I've only been all the way down the Berryessa ridge a few times, so I'm always interested in how it's done.

I'm looking forward to Wes's birthday cake too, if that works out.

The RASP is available, you can see the local radar, see the wsc web cam

    Let's hear some inputs.

question 1 - does anyone think we could have a race today- given the fcst wx?
How about these for parameters for a race? .....
Race would need to be at least two turnpoints plus the start and finish and be a total of at least 30 miles maybe?

question 2. - does anyone want to visit the glider port today just to socialize, even if we don't have a race?

    So how about it?
    anyone?

1.) Looks unlikely at best. All the RASP charts are uniformly discouraging. Plus, Accuwx says a 90% chance of rain by noon.
    2.) Perhaps.

    8 users on line
usual members are signed in, but it may be that the computer is on but no one is really monitoring - so no input are expected from--- pete-98, noelle, jiw w.

    I just talked to Rex.
He reports that "... we'll be here....."

Based on no other inputs, I'm thinking we should do two things.
On question 1 - I think it will not be a very flyable day - and we certalnly wouldn't get much out of just trying to stay aloft. This is supposed to be a race and a demo of how to accomplish one.
I recommend we call this a weather day and plan to NOT have a race today. Any one in agreement, or disagreement?

On questin 2 - Without a crowd, the social scene will be lacking. Given the lack of interaction and comments and etc, I recommend we cancel the social activites for today as well. Any agreement on questin 2? or disagreement?

    Time now is 09:47
If discussion does not bring out any disagreements, then the decisions will be declared at 0900.

Well, I'm still comfortably reading newspapers in my PJ's and can't see doing any traveling any time soon.
So I'm for cancelling 1), and saying no to 2).
