What does it take to get a "Glider Pilot Rating"?

For first time pilots: Estimated cost $4000-$5000

Start to Solo usually 30 to 50 flights.
Solo Proficiency min 20 solo flights totaling 7 hours.
Examination Preparation usually 2 to 5 flights.
Written Examination Check Ride consists of oral & flight portions.


For Rated Private Pilots adding on a glider rating: Estimated cost $2000-$2500

Start to Solo usually 10-20 flights
Solo Proficiency min 10 solo flights
Examination Preparation usually 2-5 flights
Check Ride consists of oral & flight portions
