It was great to see so many of you turn out for the VSA Holiday Party last weekend! There was great flying, fantastic food, and wonderful camaraderie. If you weren’t there, you missed a wonderful presentation by Pete Alexander to kick off the 2017/2018 VSA Winter Seminar Series. Thanks, Pete!
We also held the election of VSA officers. I and Jim Smith were elected as the President and Vice President of the VSA for the coming two-year term. Frank Peale and Cora Knowles had previously agreed to serve another term as the Treasurer and Secretary. Peter Kelly has agreed to continue act as the VSA Webmaster and Tom Jue has agreed to be the VSA photographer. We also thanked Ginny Farnsworth for her ten years of service as the President of the VSA. Her tireless efforts and dedication to the VSA are greatly appreciated!
Since that time, Jim and I have been busy discussing ideas for the rest of this year’s winter seminars and coordinating dates and details with the speakers. Here is the schedule for the remainder of the 2017/2018 VSA Winter Seminar Series:
Seminar #2 – January 20, 2018, Dan Colton – The Day I Crashed Onto the Whites
Dan is a BASA member and was recently elected as the President of PASCO. Come hear Dan share the story he says he never wanted to be in a position to tell. Dan will candidly discuss the factors that led to the crash and share his lessons learned that we can all benefit from.
Seminar #3 – February 24, 2018, Key Dismukes – How Threat-Related Stress Affects Pilots' Performance
Key was formerly NASA’s Chief Scientist for Aerospace Human Factors. Key has authored or co-authored several books and many articles related to human factors in aviation. He will discuss the role that threat-related stress plays in a pilot’s ability to carry out the tasks required for safe flight.
Seminar #4 – March 17, 2018, Kempton Izuno – Wave XC at Williams
Kempton is a veteran of many wave flights at Williams and Minden and has participated in recent years at the Minden Wave Camp as a speaker and safety pilot. Kempton will discuss how far we've come in XC wave at Williams over the last five years, including forecasting, routes, airspace, strategy and tactics.
Be sure to save the dates for these seminars! All of the seminars have been put on the Forum Calendar.
We look forward to seeing you all there,
Pat
