UPDATE on the VSA Seminar#2 Flight Demo portion:

Due to the wet weather the flight portion of the Seminar is being postponed until a future dryer date. (off field site currently muddy & underwater)

Instead during this time (10:00am-11:00am) we will have a round table group discussion regarding how to choose a field and the thought process involved. We will also encourage sharing of successful and unsuccessful off field landing experiences.

The rest of the schedule remains the same.

We look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

    After meeting comments.

I believe today was a "well above average" gliding activity for everyone in attendance.
The presentations were well attended and appeared to be well received.
Lots of interaction between pilots throughout the day.
Social hour was fun and the dinner and conversations were terrific.
I hope everyone enjoyed the day as much as I did.

Thanks to Jim Smith, VSA Vice-President and Ben and all of the VSA staff for all of their hard work on making it happen.

    How Lucky Are We?

I was thinking this throughout the day as I sat thru the presentations watching Ben Mayes, Peter Kelly, Peter Deane and Kempton Izuno give us there all.

I paid a lot of attention to Ben's discussions on landing out. There was lots of audience interaction. Good stuff.

Peter Kelly's presentation on Weather Charts was a real eye-opener. There was lots of excitement about Windy.com. However, Peter gave Dr. Jack's RASP an ample dosage of insights, particularly for us beginners. I thought the best part was when Peter shared with us the specific forecasts he utilizes and why. Peter hooked us with an excellent presentation and reeled us in with links to his invaluable references.

Peter Deane is a bit like Mallory. Whereas Mallory can bring calm when one is in full panic, Peter can bring sense to topics that extremely complicated. Peter had a lot of physics tossed in with his graphs, but he had a captive audience. We all listened intently.

I thought Kempton's presentation tied in everything Ben, Peter Kelly and Peter Dean presented. His use of Google Earth brought us right to the Mendos at glider level. Several pilots kept asking nervously just high was he? It was pretty funny.
With Google Earth, he walked us.... errr rather flew us... thru the Mendos. He was very considerate, sectioning this for beginners, intermediate and advance glider pilots.

Thanks to Jim Smith, VSA Vice-President, Ben Mayes and all of the VSA staff for their tireless support putting this together. Noelle was everywhere moving 1,000 miles a minute. If she wasn't doing the food preparation in the kitchen, she was outside lifting Fox to a designated spot with Mallory in it. I don't think Mallory gets treated this well at home....

I took a bunch of random pics.
I also included a photoshop cartoon of the three wise men at the panel discussion. Click on the link below.

I took some videos. I also included the tow pilots turning on a dime. Noelle carrying Mallory in the Fox is priceless. Click on the link below.

I apologize for missing the wonderful dinner and the chance to mingle with my friends. I had to rush off to tend to stuff on the home front.

I'd like to thank all VSA members and guests for their attendance and in particular the presenters Ben, Peter Kelly, Peter Deane, and Kempton for making this seminar such a successful event. I heard so much good feedback from the audiences. But the real credit goes to Ben Mayes for developing and implementing these seminars. We have such a wealth of expert knowledge in our flying group and these seminars provide a fun venue to easily share that knowledge with all; thanks Ben.
As Thomas J stated above "How lucky are we!"

Did anyone take a video of the presentations? Are the presentations available on-line? I was on assignment in Korea and obviously missed several excellent learning experiences.

Thanks Peter. Let me know if you find out where the video files end up from Peter and Kempton's talks.
