    Soaring Saturday, May 9

It's been a while. Flying is back on.... provisionally.

in keeping with the first provision... "Tows for Private owners resume May 9th (By Appointment only)." I have made my appointments.

I'm going to check out my ability to fly with a few flights in the 23, and if all is well, will give it a go in the ASG-32.
The RASP for tomorrow is fantastic!, but that's "normal" for this time of year.
Not looking to create envy, just trying to talk it up - share my enthusiasm and experiences, as usual, and provide you with some vicarious soaring experiences. Hopefully something you will enjoy... in these troubling times.

let's start with a look at tomorrow's fcst. Don't need a lot of words to describe this one - except maybe Wow!

    Updateat 8 pm Friday night.
    RASP is published.

Lots of Cirrus to contend with...
    see soundings.

BL Top is still good, it just won't be as good, with all that cirrus, but will be a semi-wow, or half a wow.

A good day. The two flights in the 23 went as planned.

We (Thomas D. in back seat) took a tow in the ASG32 at 11:33.. an hour earlier than planned. Too much enthusiasm... not to mention over confidence. Off tow at 6,500 between Walker and Goat South. Easy ride from there to Snow. Spent about two hours wandering about, but not climbing. At about 2:15 we finally climbed. Easy ride from Alder Springs to T-15 and back to Alder Springs for the final glide home. Never did run the engine. Flight was waaay to long. Sore butt for sure.

It was good to be back in the air.

    Re: Soaring Saturday, May 9

There is more to the story about flying on saturday, May 9, than what was posted above. I also have a lot of photos. Maybe I'll get to them as well.

There were 3 private gliders as well as Ben al towing to the mountains.
Matt in A5 passed overhead Thomas and I as we were wandering around (checking out the pine cones) near Alder Springs. Matt doesn't post to OLC so I can't tell you much about his flight, but I did check in and ask him his position a bit past 3PM - Matt reported NE of Hyampom, so he was still following the clouds! His wife helped him rig the ship at WSC, and then drove the trailer up towards Redding somewhere - I suspect they have a house up there some where. In any case, Matt had a good flight - you could hear it in his voice.

Don't know where Steve (SCW) flew to, but he doesn't post to OLC either, but I'm sure he had a good one.

Alex - flying 4B sounded like he was having a great flight, as did Ben , with a student, in the ASK-21

Here are the three images from OLC for me, Alex and for Ben

Thanks for the posts and photographs! Very good of you to include all that detail and much appreciated. I was following Matt A5 using his Garmin tracker..he landed at Corning. Many good flights May 9, so I know I missed a great day!
