    20m & Std Nationals reporting

John Cochrane's backseat was unassigned for the 2nd half of the 20M Nats, so I volunteered to be honorable ballast. While I plan to pepper John with in-flight MacCready sarcasm, my wider role is as a self-appointed reporter during the second half of the contest. I'll post to my Instagram account, SoarKemp, of in-flight pics/vids, stuff from the flightline, scores, etc. An experiment, so see you there!

Today (Monday) was day 1 of the Nats (National Competition)

Nice write up by Thomas Greenhill on OLC.
See it here: OLC Flight information - thomas greenhill (US) - 14.06.2021 (onlinecontest.org)

BTW - I flew Rex's ASG 32 Mi on Sunday (at his invitation) to check on the new computers and the new seals on the ship. John Cochrane is competing in the Nats this week and will be flying that ship (as Kemp has already mentioned). Rex wanted to be sure it was all up to snuff before John showed up on Monday to compete. It was my good fortune to have Ted Reynolds aboard in the back seat. We had a blast. Super good flight in a howling wind. Thermals were coming from the ground and going up on a 50 to 80 degree angle - lots of drift as we climbed in the thermals - and lots of fun. We had a good time.

I left Montague on Monday morning and snapped a few photos as I headed south on I-5.
These were shot as I approached Weed - about 9:30 Monday morning.

This is looking to the SW towards Callaghan - low clouds.

Looking to the SE, Mt Shasta is in the center of this photo - but is obscured by the clouds.

Lots of rain to the south and south east of Weed.

Great reporting on social media. It has been so long since I was at Siskiyou that I have to struggle to remember where all the turnpoints are though I set up many of them.
