    Wave on Saturday 2/5?

Ae you guys paying attention to the NAM? It is predicting strong (30+ knots) with from the NE on Saturday. If it is not blown out on the ground, it could be a great butte wave day...

True for the 850 and 700mb, but winds drop off some at 500 and are more from the NW. Plus the RASP is not showing a wave at Goat, which for me, has been a good correlation indicator for strength of the Buttes wave. So I think there will be wave on the Buttes, but only up to 13-14K.

No Feedback? I can tell from WSC Spot that someone was soaring the Butte wave on Saturday. Pilot reports help fine tuning the forecasts.
There was weak wave to 9000 feet over Mt Diablo and pilots at Hollister got to around 11,000 feet behind the Santa Cruz range. Sunday was good for 12,000 feet in Mt Diablo wave.

    Hey Ramy,
I was at WSC on Sunday, but not flying. I was told that on Saturday Scott Docktor was flying the Buttes to 10K, with training flights finding wave right off the end of the runway up to 9K or so. Not indicated much on the RASPs but there anyway.

Interesting. What do you think trigered the wave over the runway? Bow wave maybe?

Of course, there was no obstacle, so my theory is it's a hydraulic jump, and WSC happens to be at the place where it occurs based on air stability & speed. This video of a large open channel, think Central Valley, is what I'm thinking:
