    Saturday Soaring -- Revisited?

This past Saturday was a wonderful soaring day with one of the best convergence lines I have flown in the past few seasons. It was a classic convergence thermal day with cu's sporting dangly-bits and shelving on the west side.

    Here's a few pictures:

Even with my late start I was able to cruise up to Hayfork Peak and return with little difficulty. It was BIG fun!

You can find my flight on OLC at: http://www.onlinecontest.org/olc-2.0...l?dsId=3240063

7V, JH, and OJ also enjoyed the day. 7V reaching the Carter (which is just on the southwestern edge of Scott Valley) and return. JH reaching Weaverville and return.

Hopefully, this season will have a few additional cu/convergence-tastic soaring days.

On Sunday, John Cochrane and I flew FNX from 5m SE of Goat, to just abeam of the Weed airport, then to the west side of the Trinity Wilderness, and back to the start for 558 km at 136.1 kph = 84.6 mph:

Smoke got really bad in the Montague area, plus we couldn't see any cu anyway. These conditions may show up and be even better next week, see separate thread.

John Cochrane loved it, he use to fly hang gliders off of Hull in the 80s. His long term plan is to get out here much more often. He had high regard for the quality of the WSC operation, repair shop, and social structure. Plus the flying was great. Rex, Noelle, John and I went out for dinner and there was much discussion of contests, repair shops and organizations.....
