    Sat/Sun WX: Sept 28-29

Saturday looks to be blue with a bit of cu on Yolla.

Sunday however, looks very interesting. A powerful front is going to dump 2-4 inches on Oregon & NW Cal. The front should give us a good west wind wave starting early and running until the moisture shuts the gaps late Sunday with winds 260 or so at 15knots @ 850mb, 40 knots @700mb, & 60 knots @ 500mb

So, speculation hat on...An OLC 1000K possibility is:
    1) Run from release, assumed west of WSC, up to east of T16
    2) Then south to Vacaville
    3) North to close to #1
    4) Back to near Vacaville
    5) Last trip to east of T16
    6) And back to WSC

Of course, it must be well marked & consistent = no gaps between waves, and reasonable bailout options, esp on the last leg north. Ave speed needs be 100mph or so.

Something to consider, will post more as the RASPs come up......

Hmmm... Sounds interesting. Maybe the front will hold off until Monday? Calendar model says I can fly on Monday. Maybe post frontal?

The velocity looks good but too much southerly direction? I will probably give it a try but wave always seems hard to predict. But then again it always feels so good when you get it

It's 270-260 up top, but down at ridgeline it's 240 or so, which aligns well with the higher ridges. The rasp shows wave all day, stronger in the morning, then just stay high.

I'm taking that to be 9 AM on sunday.

As for me, my calendar model says Saturday (today) is the day to fly - besides, I'd put my money more on a better wave day on Monday - maybe. but I hope tomorrow (Sunday) is a good day for Ramy. I've done the Vacaville turn a couple of times (with more of a west flow- as Luke cautions), but never went north past Snow on the Mendos - but did end up over willows at 10,000 one time on my way back south on the yo-yo from vacaville.

So I'll plan on a tow today (Saturday) about 1 PM. Thermals today are OK from Goat to Blk Butte to Gold mines, etc. ,
    Maybe even a few markers.

    Thanks

    Quite the day today.
Launched at 1:20 landed at 6:23 (needed 30 minutes before sunset just to put the glider in the box before dark).

Only me flying at first, and Ed with some students. Tom Jue helped me rig - thanks Tom.
Off tow at 3,000 ft. Practiced an engine start - climbing from 2500 to 5500. I made my way from Indian to cross roads. Found thermals. made my way north of Sheet Iron at 8,000 ft but ran back to St Johns and then worked mostly wave the rest of the day.

BG joined me in the air about 4:30 pm.

I ran the ridge from Rumsey south to the Ridge South Turn point - staying high - well above the ridge - and not bumpy.

Great day of flying OLC gave me 230km for my 4 1/2 hours of flying.

    1. Engine run to cross roads
    2. working thermals, then wave strong behind the SE foot of snow - up to 13,000 ft
    3. over to join BG, then to Walker but nothing
    4. ridge was working as I dropped down to below 4,000 ft south of Rumsey, so I ran it twice, then home before dark.

OMG, I haven't said that before on the group. Lennies stretch from Vaca to the north.

    Amazing
