I was on the schedule, mostly because Key was visiting and he was planning to fly. I looked ahead to this weekend on tuesday and wednesday - four and five days out - and all I could see was a stabilizing air mass with high potential for alto stratus and high cirrus. I took myself off the weekend schedule on thursday, to allow others the opportunity to fly ASW24-88, but no one jumped on the open ship.

Today, I see the optimistic fcst that appears on the RASP - for Saturday and for Sunday.

I'd say it could go either way, if you look at the big picture: Looking at BL winds, pressure gadients, soundings and the stability gradients (UNIYSYS - going from 12off the coast, down to a 4 inland, west to east).

all that said, I am back on the schedule and I plan to fly both days.

can't fly if you are not at the airport.

From reading the discussion it sounts like saturday and sunday are a toss. From looking at both NAM and RASP they both scream that Sunday will be much better. What am i missing?

I will fly on Saturday, maybe Sunday. Ramy - sometimes it's just the calendar model.

"the discussion" ? do you mean the discussion on this thread?

Looking at the BLIP-NAM and RASP-NAM that are now available for less than 12 hours from now, nearly reporting the actual event, being of such a short duration forecast - I would hardly call them a forecast and they now need little discussion - as compared to discussion that refers to five days ago evaluations.

Fact: the shorter the forecast period, the more accurate the forecast.

I agree with Ramy, Sunday does look better.

I love the 180 degree wind sheer on the williams sounding, not once, but twice tomorrow.

Key and I will fly tomorrow.

Looks like wave day today? The RASP shows decent wave.

    Re: Saturday Soaring

I studied the RASP and BLIP before visiting here.
I commented a day or two ago on the odd wind patterns that we would have, and was focused on looking for instability.

Wave? It never even crossed my mine to look at it or for it.

I was trying t make the convergence line work, in weak lift and worrying about high cloud cover, etc. etc. and then I looked for Wave as Ramy suggests.

yup, I see why you mention it Ramy, thank you.

And with the lack of instability, mostly due to weak thermals, which are due to poor surface heating as much as anything, wave will be a good thing to look for. I will follow your advice.
