    March 1 (Sunday) Wave Watch

Per Peter Kelly's note, Sunday is still tracking to a morning north wind wave day. Not nearly as windy, but looks good for waviness without the excess drama.

Sunday 4a, the upper winds are strong enough & from NNE:

but by 4p it's moved south

and most importantly, the 5,000 ft winds have dropped below 15 knots. So with this outlook, plan an early morning launch, and to be done by 1p. I won't be flying, but someone post the RASP wave charts Thu evening.

Now that it is Thursday, we can see there will be no wave on Sunday March 1, but I never had any intention of flying on Sunday, 1 March, in the first place. Last Sunday, I just wanted to share my observation that there was some potential for wave, given the pressure patterns shown in the forecast models, albeit, not too much.

On Monday I booked the ASW24- OJ for flying on Saturday, as I was hoping we might have some post frontal activity. However, this being the end of February, the sun angle is low, so heating will not be strong. Couple that with the center of the low to the SE of us and we end up with warming offshore air flow from the NNE. That air flow pattern tends to stabilize an otherwise unstable air mass.

All of that said, it may strike a nice balance and we may have a reasonably nice valley day on Saturday with few if any thunderstorms. There is adequate moisture in the air, so there will be plenty of cu to mark the lift.

I still plan to fly on Saturday, if the current forecast holds - see the BLIP and the RASP.

    Friday Review,

Saturday is still looking good. As I said yesterday...

I still plan to fly on Saturday, if the current forecast holds - see the BLIP and the RASP.
    and it is holding ok.
Take a look at the WSC Web Cam today after about noontime.
You will undoubtedly see how nicely the cu are forming on the west side of the valley.
I expect it to look even better tomorrow.

    Another example of....

    "Weather Whiplash"

    A great phrase!
