    And glad to make it back. As Tom Bjork quipped about the PDX flight, "I've never gone so far, so low".

    We never got above 9,500ft until Mt. Shasta, but never felt stressed though, the lift was reasonably reliable and the clouds marked lift north of T-16. I was looking to see if we could get into the forecast Shasta wave:

    but it was not to be. A very enjoyable 7.6 hour flight nonetheless. Some pics:

    The lift line was way to the east of normal, so we followed, venturing across ground I'd not flown, such as over Castle Crags:

    And close to Lake Shasta on the way south. Last cu were at T-16, then just bounced along on the east side of the Mendos.

    Started at 40:1 from Yolla, worked up to 30:1 by Stonyford, then the last ten miles to WSC had 3-5 knot sink!! Arrived @ WSC at 800 ft. A wonderful flight! And Kevin enjoyed it too....

    Nice flight Kempton. The third photo looks like Castle Crags.

    Was the wave working and you couldn't get in it / too risky to dive over the back or was it not happening? If you were in the 30 would you have tried? I'm assuming ridge soaring up Shasta wouldn't work very well.

    Oh I see you went all the way around so you tried for it. Was the wave happening or too unstable?

    @Luke, yes, corrected, Castle Crags

    @Milt, the wave wasn't there, but there was a blue hole in the clouds. Some lift on the downwind side, but more curiously, was to see very shreddy cloud going up the lee of Shasta:

    It's the cloud in the upper right, slowly going up the slope. Didn't want to go into it, could be very turbulent.
